Even before the election fever started, we had been looking forward to listening to the campaign ceramah(s). In 2004, we had great fun trailing the DAP as they organised ceramah here and there. Since we were mostly around this Bukit Gambir area, we of course braved the massive crowds and pushed our way through to hear Karpal Singh when he was fighting for the Bukit Gelugur seat. (This was before he met with the accident so this was before he became wheelchair-bound. Poor guy!)
Last Wednesday night, we were again on our rounds to Air Itam to look for the DAP ceramah. Sadly, DAP could not get a permit and didn’t manage to hold a ceramah at the appointed place!
This year too we wanted to go to a DAP ceramah, if only to hear blogger Jeff Ooi speak! I know many bloggers in Penang are working hard for him either helping him on polling day or at least helping him spread the news and vote for Jeff Ooi/ vote for Jelutong, THE place where the Tiger of Jelutung (Karpal Singh) used to be.

But finally hear Jeff Ooi we did. I must say he did floor me with his arguments which were rather well-thought out with extremely hard hitting facts. Although he spoke with an American drawl, he spoke well too in Hokkien, Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia.

Kuching Diary: Goat's EyeLashes & Markets
Yes, I still have more posts about Kuching! I think I have a few more before I close this Kuching diary. I must get back to regular/present posts. So many things to write about, not that I have had that many CNY adventures.
=============================================================
If there is one thing odd about Kuching, it is the very few Indians you see there. Oh sure they have a street called India Street that’s right smack in the heart of the city.
There’s an India Street with an Indian Mosque Lane.

But really, don’t expect much. Even when you’re walking down this street, you still won’t find that many Indians.
A Little Interruption…
Well, I interrupt the regular Kuching Diary with something which I am so excited about.
And you know I do not simply recommend something unless I find it exceptional and remarkable.
Kuching Diary: Cheng Ho Garden
Continuing my Kuching entries!
And of course, Happy Valentine’s! Remember there are all kinds of love – friendship, for instance! And of course, the regular kind, the boyfriend-girlfriend, husband-wife. Also don’t forget sisterly and brotherly love, parental love, etc. Even love for animals.
********************

I had heard about Cheng Ho or Zheng He Garden or Taman Sahabat for sometime now but never had the chance to visit until this last trip to Kuching. It’s located at Jalan Song.
Kuching Diary, Part 1
I will be posting up some of my posts which I wrote in Kuching before I continue with my CNY posts. I called these my Kuching Diary entries. 😉
****************
We arrived in Kuching a few days ago but the weather’s been good to us. The sun isn’t as hot as Penang (thankfully though to Mom in law, any sun means it’s hot). It rains in the night too so good for sleeping. Now I know why there’s so much green and vegetation here in Sarawak – the climate makes plants grow and grow!

The first thing Nic and I do (when we get the chance) is to eat Sarawak’s famous kolo mee. I kind of enjoy this Q-Q noodles (Q-Q in Hokkien means springy lah) here even though it’s such a simple dish. Just plain noodles with a few slices of char siew and some char siew oil. No wantan, no vege. The noodles are addictive though. I wonder why Penangites have not caught on to this type of noodles instead of the limp wantan noodles we have over there.
Back in Action
I was back from Kuching on the 30th but somehow or other, so many things got in the way of proper blogging. It didn’t help that I was probably half comatose while in Kuching what with the awful dial-up services. We could only access the Internet at midnight! And that made me so grateful for broadband services here in Penang.
A Short Break
I won’t be posting for the next couple of days as I am in Kuching.
The Internet line is rather slow here.
Anyway, lots of posts when I get back!
😉
Yee Sang for Charity
I hope you enjoy yee sang.
If you do, then buy some yee sang for charity!
Tze, a friend of mine, is organising a Prosperity Yee Sang for Charity in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year. She’ll also be presenting during the event to be held next Friday, 25 January at the E&O Hotel together with FoodFriends (a group of foodies under the International Women’s Association).
All proceeds during this prosperity yee sang for charity will go towards two charities, Eden Handicapped Centre and Seri Cahaya Orphanage. Both are located in Penang.
Here’s how you can support:
1. Buy a box of yee sang. Or better, buy many boxes of yee sang. After all, Chinese New Year is a time for sharing with family and friends. Each box is priced at RM18. Contact 261 4099 to buy your yee sang.
2. Join Tze and FoodFriends at E&O Hotel next Friday, 10.30am, for their pre-CNY celebration which includes a buffet lunch with wine and yee sang (of course!). Tze and her team will and explain Chinese traditions too. They have also lined up some food preparation demos by two chefs. To take part in this exclusive lunch, get your ticket at RM50 per person. Contact 261 4099 for details.
I had planned to join but I won’t be in Penang next week (though I hope to still blog when I am over in Kuching). That’s rather unfortunate because I’ve always enjoyed events organised by Tze and FoodFriends. I would probably buy some yee sang for family – the yee sang are generously sponsored by a friend of hers.
There are only 400 boxes of yee sang so hurry if you want to support this good cause.
After all, most if not all of us will be buying yee sang for our CNY celebrations so make it meaningful by grabbing some yee sang from this event!
Reincarnating the 7-Day Weekend
So sorry if I appeared to have gone missing. I have not but so many things have gotten in the way of proper blogging so at times, I get 101 ideas but have not had the time to blog.
Play, Learn and Help!
I got addicted. Well and truly did. All because I clicked on a link which a friend was touting.
It’s a vocab game which really got me hooked. There’s nothing like a good set of words to get my day started.
